Um, Cave B that is… This winery never ceases to amaze me. Not only did they offer to have me taste all the wines that we offer (that was a great day) but they consistently create wines worthy of their name. We are now offering the 2003 Cabernet Sauvignon, 2004 Sagecliffe Cabernet Sauvignon, 2004 Sagecliffe merlot and the 2005 Syrah. The greatest thing about what comes from their cave is both the Cave b wines and the Sagecliffe wines. What is the difference you ask? I will tell you. The Sageclifffe wines are made by the same guys and from the same vineyards as the Cave b wines, but once tasted they are completely different than one another. To me, the sagecliffe wines are a bit more fruit forward and simple. They are great to pair with delicate foods and to drink at dinner parties, they are very approachable. Cave b is also approachable, but to a whole other set of wine drinkers. These wines are more complex and earthy (again this is all according to personal opinion). They exhibit less fruit and are much more substantial than the sagecliffe wines. This makes neither of them better or worse than the other, in fact, I think it’s brilliant for a winery that is able to produce two labels to do so in the hopes of appealing to all wine buyers. There is something for everyone in this cave. I suggest that you find who you are: Sage-cliffe-hanger? Cave b-dweller?
